K.Y. (CHAN Kai-yin) was graduated from Hong Kong Polytechnic University & has worked as a professional illustrator, visual art artist and art critics for over 20 years. He has exhibited his work in the form of illustrations, paintings and installations for 10 solo as well as around 30 group exhibitions.
K.Y. has had his illustrations published in various media, such as in 'i money', 'Milk', 'Next Magazine', ' Buddhist Compassion', 'Ming Pao Daily News', and 'Ming Pao Weekly'. His clients included Swire, Wharf, Ogilvy & Mather, Leo Burnett, J. Walter Thompson, Oxford University Press, Hassell, and Emphasis Media, etc. K.Y. published his picture book 'The Hippo Epic' in 2005. He set up the 'Pencil Rubber' creative group with Ryan Yan, a experienced author and dramatist & published 'Pencil/Rubber - City of Magical Reality' in 2009.
K.Y. was also appointed as the guest lecturer of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University, HKDI etc. for many year. He received the Freeman Foundation Asian Artists Awards (Vermont Studio Center, US ) in 1999 and also participated in the Gwangiu biennale and the 50th Venice biennale in 2003. In 2005, he was one of the Hong Kong delegates attended the ICON4 illustration conference in San Francisco. In 2007, he was invited to join the 1st China Illustration Exhibition in Guanshanyue Art Museum. K.Y. has been made the vice-chairman of the Hong Kong Society of Illustrators in 2006, 2007 and elected as the chairman in 2008, 2009 and became the Honorary Member of the society in 2012. He was also the chairman of organizing committee of the 'First Greater China Illustration Awards'.
